Best Golf GPS Devices

By

A Golf GPS device can help dramatically improve your game, it’s like taking an expert caddie along. Golf GPS systems have rapidly evolved into complete course management systems. These devices take the guesswork out of determining distances to various course targets. The primary goal of a golf GPS device is to provide accurate distances to all kinds of features on the course, especially the distance to the green. There are many different companies that produce golf GPS devices, giving ample opportunity to choose the best one.

The latest generation of golf GPS devices go well beyond the basics of the distance-to-the-hole data. They are capable of giving quick and accurate guidance from anywhere on the course. Many of today’s units can tell you the length of your last shot, the distance to and location of targets and hazards, and the distance to the front, middle and back of the green. They can also store information on previous shots for future reference. For all devices to obtain satisfactory accuracy the GPS receiver require an unobstructed view of the sky.

There are two different types of golf GPS systems, one is the course owned and the other is the player owned. Course owned systems usually have two way radio capabilities and allows the clubhouse to be in constant contact with all players which offers more opportunities for the management of the golf course. With the radio capability players can even request food and drinks while playing, and players can receive updates on weather from the clubhouse. The main benefit of a player owned system is that it can significantly reduce the amount of time that a player takes to finish a round.

There are several types of Golf GPS units. The more expensive models have benefits such as a built-in memory that allows the player to store their favorite courses. This can eliminate the need to have to set up the unit each time you want to play golf. However it is important to understand that while a GPS system can help to improve your game, it does not give people the skill to be able to play golf instantly. You will still need to learn to how golf is played and the rules of the game before you can fully benefit from a GPS unit. Any unit is a welcome asset for a golfer. A GPS unit makes an excellent gift for a friend, family member, co-worker or your boss. Any golfer would be ecstatic to receive one of these electronic wonders.

There are stand alone player owned systems, player owned systems for cell phones, player owned systems for PocketPC and Palm PDA and course owned portable systems.  Each system has unique benefits, from the specific features that come with each to the portability and ease of use differences.  The main purpose of any system is to provide golfers with distances which provides the player with valuable information for making each shot.  It is similar to having a very experienced caddie by your side and is well worth the money.  Investing in a Golf GPS system is money very well spent.
